Diabetic Diet In Pregnancy! Recently my hubby was diagnosed with having diabetes, and I have been suffering with pre-diabetes for two years now. It can be devastating to discover you have a disease that will alter your entire life. Don't fool yourself, it will. Everything changes in the way you eat to where you go.
For a short time imagine visiting a movie and never being able to eat popcorn or candy. You have to smell hot, buttery, popcorn when you enter the building and during the movie you have to endure that aroma. Most of us never even offer a second shown to movie popcorn. We love it or we hate it; we buy it or we do not. But, should you suffer from some form of disorder that restricts its consumption it might linger in your mind, almost obsessively, although you may really don't are interested.
Now imagine as being a Starbucks junkie. You meet per week with the girls to use its creamy goodness, and talk over what is happening in your life. You always order a Venti Frapuccino and get it with every sip. You even swirl the cream around towards the bottom of your glass as it empties therefore it mixes with the coffee and can make it even creamier. Your lips are watering just reading this. Now, you might no longer drink those luscious drinks. For a short time you consider skipping out on your weekly Starbucks date, or doing something much more drastic. That is unless you decide to do your homework.
There are a couple of Starbucks drink options that are diabetic friendly. The Starbucks website provides the nutrition info on all of their drinks. They also have downloadable PDF files that may help you to reach your daily diet goals. One is entitled "20 Delicious Choices Under 200 Calories," and the other is, "Customize Your Beverages for the More Balanced Drink."
But, what now ? if you forget to look into your drink prior to going? Well, remember that anything sugar free such as syrups normally do not have many if any calories or carbohydrates. Also, stick to non-fat milk. While it is higher in carbohydrates, it is advisable for you, especially if you are watching your cholesterol. Also, stick with a tall drink. These drinks is often as much as half the calories, sugar, and carbohydrates from the grande!
Another key help could be the barista. When I was first diagnosed as pre-diabetic I relied heavily about the barista. She taught me to be navigate my way through the coffee shop lingo, and could many times tell me the nutritional information for that drink I was considering.
The most sensible thing to remember when facing the diabetic diet challenge would be to know undeniably that you can do it!
